Flower life

Today I’d like to write about flower life. Some flowers have long life but some are short.

However, do you think short life flowers are not worth having?

For example, iris may only last five days or so, however, the flower is perfect for Festive occasions such as Children’s day on 5th of May, Japanese celebrate children growth and wish for children‘s health.

In contrast, Chrysanthemums can last a few weeks and are used as ikebana material for one of the special occasions: Chyo-yo-no Sekku on 9th of September.

How about Peony? Peoney once starts blooming, it may be last 5 or so days but people are attracted by it’s dynamic beauty.

As each flower has different colour or size, they have also have different life expectancy. We learn to appreciate the opportunity to use these flowers and its at the heart of ikebana.
